Texas A&M legends Anjanette Kirkland and Andrea Williams have recently been inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2024. The induction ceremony took place at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio, where Kirkland was recognized for her illustrious track and field career while Williams was celebrated for her trailblazing accomplishments in both volleyball and basketball at Texas A&M.

Kirkland, who graduated from Holmes High School in San Antonio, was a member of the Aggies’ track and field team from 1993-97. She went on to become a member of the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame, the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame, and the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame. During her time at Texas A&M, Kirkland won numerous titles and accolades, including being named Female Performer of the Year at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in 1997. Currently, she coaches track and field at Cypress Woods High School in Houston.

Williams, recognized as a member of the SEC Legends Class of 2020, was also an athlete for Texas A&M. She became the first athlete to letter in both volleyball and basketball in the same year while helping lead her teams to the NCAA Sweet 16 in both sports. After her athletic career, Williams pursued a successful career in sports administration, currently serving as Chief Experience Officer for NBA’s Utah Jazz.

The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024 includes former Converse Judson High School football coach Jim Rackley and Julius Whittier, who became the first Black football letterman at University of Texas. Each member has made significant contributions to sports and has left a lasting legacy through their respective fields.

Overall, these athletes have demonstrated excellence not only on their respective fields but also off them through their pursuit of success beyond their athletic careers.
