The iconic Argentine, who led Atletico Madrid and Barcelona to numerous victories, as well as guiding Argentina to World Cup glory in 1978, passed away on Sunday after a long battle with anemia.
Menotti’s impact on the world of football was profound, and his innovative social and football philosophy challenged traditional views in Argentina and beyond. He was revered in both his home country and Spain as one of the greatest heroes in the history of football, and his coaching career included stints at top clubs like Barcelona, where he led them to several domestic titles before stepping down in 1984.
Despite retiring from coaching, Menotti remained involved in football and was appointed as the director of the Argentina national teams in 2019. However, his declining health forced him to resign from this position earlier this year.
