The Importance of Following City Sports Field Closures: Staying Informed through Email and Text Alerts

When the “CITY SPORTS FIELDS CLOSED” notification is posted, all City leased fields, including those at City schools, are off-limits for use during the specified time frame. It’s crucial that no one uses these fields during the closure period. Permitted leagues found using a closed field may face penalties or loss of field usage for the season. Unauthorized users will receive a warning and/or citation if they are discovered on a closed field.

The City posts closings on its website at www.cityoffrederick.com and on the public information line at 301-600-6970 option 3. Closure announcements are typically made by 2 pm on weekdays and 8 am on weekends. Interested parties can now sign up for email or text alerts for field closures by visiting the City’s website and clicking on “View All” under press releases. Then, click on “Notify Me” on the right-hand side, add your email address, specify which groups you want to receive messages from, and choose between email or email and phone notifications.
