Surviving Inflation: The Struggles of a Maternity Clothing Store Owner

Inflation Causes Lincoln Maternity Thrift Store to Experience 60% Decrease in Business

Kristi Cadenbach’s maternity clothing store, All About Mama, opened its doors in November 2022 with the goal of providing a safe and comfortable shopping experience for mothers. However, due to inflation, she is now facing declining sales and struggling to keep her store open.

Cadenbach understands the challenges that come with shopping for maternity clothes and wanted to create a space where women could feel confident and supported. That’s why she ensured that every woman and child who entered her shop was taken care of by having fitting rooms big enough for strollers and a play area for kids.

Despite her efforts, Cadenbach has seen a decline in sales, with around 15 customers a week compared to the previous 40. To boost sales, she is hosting her third pop-up event called “Bumps, Babies, & Beyond” in Bellevue in August. The event will showcase items for pregnancy, postpartum, and nursing, with food trucks, face painting, and multiple vendors.

In addition to the pop-up event, Cadenbach is also building a website to sell clothes online in hopes of increasing sales. She wants to expand her store to offer classes and parenting support groups but is facing declining sales. Thrift stores tend to do well even in bad economic times, but even they are feeling the impact of the current economic situation.

Cadenbach’s goal is to continue providing a safe space for mothers to shop without stress while also expanding her business offerings. For more information about All About Mama and their upcoming pop-up event, visit their website.
