Surge in Croatian Road Vehicles: A Four-Percent Increase and One Unit for Every Third Passenger Vehicle Registered

More than 2.5 million registered vehicles in Croatia

In 2023, Croatia saw a four percent increase in the number of registered road vehicles, with a total of 2,554,524 vehicles on the roads. Of these, 1,910,131 were passenger vehicles, showing a growth of 3.8 percent from the previous year. First-time registrations also increased significantly, with an overall growth rate of 28.6 percent compared to 2022.

One notable increase was seen in motorcycles, which experienced an uptick of 42.3 percent and brought the total number of motorcycles on Croatian roads to 101,515 by the end of the year. Similarly, trucks saw a significant increase in first-time registrations with a growth rate of 36.6 percent and a total of 221,006 trucks on the roads by the end of the year. Road tractors also experienced an uptick in first-time registrations with a growth rate of 29.3 percent and a total of 16,504 tractors on Croatian roads by the end of the year.

In terms of passenger vehicle registrations alone, there was an increase of around 787 units or about one unit for every third vehicle registered for the first time in Croatia last year. This represents around two units per every third passenger vehicle registered for first time across all European Union countries combined last year.

However not all categories experienced growth in first-time registrations: agricultural tractors saw an uptick but it was only around one unit for every eighth vehicle registered for first time while buses had a decrease by about five units or around two units for every sixth bus registered.

In terms of road traffic accidents with casualties in Croatia last year there were over ten thousand incidents which is marking a six percent increase from previous year but fatalities remained relatively stable at just under three hundred deaths and more than fourteen thousand injured individuals recorded showing an increase six percent as well.
