Surfers Murdered in a Robbery Gone Wrong: A Tragic End to a Surfing Trip in Mexico

Three surfers from abroad killed in botched robbery in Mexico, three suspects apprehended

Three surfers, two Australians and an American, were murdered in a robbery gone wrong in Mexico, according to reports from Mexican authorities. The victims were identified as Australian brothers Callum (33) and Jake (30) Robinson, and their American friend Jack Rhoad (30), who were on a surfing holiday on the Mexican coast when they disappeared without a trace last weekend.

They were last seen in northern Baja California state, in far northeastern Mexico. After the Australians did not show up at their previously booked Airbnb and Rhoades was absent from work in San Diego, their social media channels suddenly went silent, prompting a missing persons report. Their car was later found burned out near their campsite, and the bodies of the trio were discovered in a 15-meter deep well on Saturday.

Mexican authorities have launched a murder investigation, with prosecutor Maria Elena Andrade Ramirez stating that everything indicates the three friends were killed during a robbery when they allegedly resisted, resulting in the robbers shooting them. Three suspects have been arrested, with local police mentioning that they were in possession of narcotics, and one suspect was found with the phone of one of the Robinson brothers.
