Sleep with Me: Harnessing the Power of Nature’s Music to Find Peace and Rest

The Mental Health Benefits of Birdsong: Exploring the Science

Today on The Science of Happiness, we have a very special episode. Our guest is Drew Ackerman, the host of Sleep with Me Podcast and also known as Scooter. Drew shares his personal struggle to fall asleep and how he found solace in listening to the twitter of birds through a science-backed practice. He found that the recordings of birdsong helped him relax and transported him to a different time and place, ultimately helping him fall asleep.

We also have two other guests joining us today, Emil Stobbe from the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Germany and Jesper Alvarsson from Södertörn University in Sweden. Eleanor Ratcliffe from the University of Surrey in the UK is also here to contribute her expertise.

During this episode, we discuss different ways to appreciate the outdoors and improve sleep quality. Listeners can check out “The Science of a Good Night’s Sleep” and “Why You Should Snap Pictures of Nature” for more information on this topic.
