Rómulo Roux, Opposition Candidate in Panama’s 2024 Elections, Demands an End to Corruption in Politics

Romulo Roux, the opposition presidential candidate, urged Panamanians to vote for change in the Constitution and dismantle the political system that he believes protects corruption during a campaign closing event on Wednesday. He made these remarks at a rally in James of Veraguas, where he expressed his desire to “finish forever with corrupt politics” and create a system that upholds transparency and accountability.

Roux, who is 59 years old and represents the center-right, remains committed to his vision of constitutional reform and systemic change despite facing tough competition from candidates like José Raúl Mulino, Martin Torrijos, and Ricardo Lombana. He has promised to create jobs, raise minimum pensions, revitalize the economy if elected. Additionally, Roux aims to build a railway connecting the capital to the western province of Chiriqui.

In his campaign, Roux has emphasized the importance of choosing between continuity with the current corrupt system or real change that prioritizes the well-being of the Panamanian people.
