Revolutionizing Economy Class: Air New Zealand’s Skycouch and Skynest Sleep Solutions

Air New Zealand Voted Best Economy Class for 2024

Air New Zealand has been recognized for its innovation in Economy Class with the award for Best Economy Class for its introduction of the Skycouch and Skynest beds. The Skynest, which features a six-pod sleep zone for economy passengers to rest during long-haul flights, has already received numerous accolades and is set to be available on ultra-long-haul flights starting with the Auckland – New York route in September 2024.

Each pod in the Skynest will come equipped with amenities such as a full-size pillow, sheets, blanket, ear plugs, personal device USB outlet, and ventilation outlet. The lighting will also be designed for optimal rest, creating a comfortable and relaxing environment for passengers. Passengers will have access to one session in the Skynest per flight, with families traveling on the same ticket having the option to book a session for each passenger subject to availability.

In addition to the Skynest, Air New Zealand also offers the popular Skycouch option that allows passengers to lie flat during their journey. The airline has taken safety measures into consideration when introducing the Skynest by ensuring that each pod comes with a separate seatbelt and that bedding is changed between each session to ensure a clean and hygienic experience for all passengers. There will be a 30-minute transition time between sessions and crew members will gently wake passengers at the end of their rest session.

Air New Zealand continues to prioritize passenger comfort and innovation in air travel by providing economy class passengers with the opportunity to purchase an extra seat next to them allowing for additional space and comfort during their flight. With these options available on ultra-long-haul flights, Air New Zealand ensures that travelers can arrive at their destination refreshed and ready to go.
