A school in Cambridge has completed the largest jigsaw puzzle in the world. Students from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School worked together for 11 months to finish the 60,000-piece puzzle, with each student completing 240 pieces. Emily Houston, a teacher at the school, had the idea for the puzzle and divided it into 60 sections, each hosted by a staff member in their classroom.
The students used the puzzle as a way to make friends and work on problem-solving skills together. Many found it to be a peaceful mental exercise that provided a break from technology. As one student, Aniket Srivastava, explained, he paid more attention to color than shape while working on his section of the puzzle.
The school considered hanging up the completed puzzle but ultimately decided to break it down so they could try again in a few years, possibly even making it larger next time. The puzzle project was a collaborative effort that brought the school community together in a unique way.
