Protecting Nantucket’s Future: Why You Must Vote YES on Article 59 at the Town Meeting

Nantucket Current | The Fate of Our Economy and Community Rests in the Balance

As a Nantucket resident deeply connected to the community, I urge everyone to come together and vote YES on Article 59 at the upcoming Town Meeting on May 7. The fate of our island’s economy and the very essence of our community are at stake, and we cannot afford to let it falter.

Short-term rentals play a crucial role in preserving our community, providing financial stability for many families and enabling them to maintain properties they couldn’t afford otherwise. For me, as an owner of multiple short-term rentals and an architectural firm on the island, I have seen firsthand the importance of these properties to our community.

Tourism is essential for our island’s economy, supporting local businesses and contributing to the workforce. Short-term rental visitors not only support shops and restaurants but also connect our community together through their contributions. However, efforts to restrict property owner rights threaten the livelihoods of many families and undermine the very foundation of our community.

Article 59 is not just about protecting short-term rentals but safeguarding the future prosperity of Nantucket for generations to come. It is crucial that we come together as a community and vote YES on this important measure. Our collective future is at stake, and we must act now to ensure a brighter tomorrow for all of Nantucket’s residents.
