Prisma Health allocates $41 million towards smart bed technology

Prisma Health has recently invested $41 million to improve the patient experience by introducing new smart beds throughout its healthcare system. These Hillrom smart beds and surfaces will replace approximately 1,500 inpatient beds, enhancing the overall patient experience. Additionally, Prisma’s staff will have access to these smart beds to provide superior care to patients in various departments such as the intensive care unit, labor and delivery, medical and surgical units, and bariatrics.

The smart beds will come equipped with Hercules patient repositioning technology, allowing one caregiver to safely reposition a patient. They will also feature advanced technology to assist with fall prevention, pressure injury reduction, increased comfort, and improved communication. These innovative features include floor projections for bed alarm status, position, and side rails, powered transport with stop-and-turn controls, a fifth wheel for portability, a built-in USB port for patient devices, storage area, illuminated side rails, and under-bed lights.
