Pittsburgh Residents Included in Forbes’ 2024 List of Billionaires

Pittsburgh has had a strong presence on Forbes’ annual list of the world’s billionaires for 2024. A total of 5 individuals with ties to the city made it onto the list, which features 2,781 billionaires with a combined net worth of $14.2 trillion as of March 8, 2024.

One of the most notable Pittsburghers on the list is David Tepper, who was ranked at No. 94 with a net worth of $20.6 billion. Tepper is known for founding Appaloosa Management and owning the Carolina Panthers. He grew up in Pittsburgh and attended both the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University before making his fortune in finance.

Another Pittsburgh native featured on the list is Mark Cuban, who sold his majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks last year and was ranked at No. 563 with a net worth of $5.4 billion. Cuban hails from Mt. Lebanon and also attended the University of Pittsburgh before becoming an entrepreneur and investor in technology start-ups like Netscape Communications Corporation and Broadcast.com.

Maggie Hardy, owner and CEO of 84 Lumber, also made it onto the list at spot No. 775 with a net worth of $4.1 billion. Hardy took control of the company after her father’s passing in 1992 and has since grown it into one of the largest building material suppliers in North America with over 300 locations across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Thomas Tull and Ron Burkle are two other individuals with ties to Pittsburgh who made it onto the list as well
