Nurses Gather for Cutting-Edge Training at RWJBarnabas Health Peri-Anesthesia Conference

Nurses from RWJBarnabas Health’s PACU and Same Day Surgery Units Participate in Peri-Anesthesia Conference

RWJBarnabas Health recently hosted a Peri-Anesthesia Conference at its Eisenhower facility in Livingston, NJ. The conference was organized by The Institute for Nursing Excellence and aimed to provide 44 nurse attendees with lectures, simulations, and certification review for the CAPA and CPAN examinations. The event was led by Swapnil Shah, DNP, Jessica Stanford, MSN RN-BC, and Mary Koch, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, CNOR.

The conference’s agenda included topics such as Phase I and II Management, Review of Anesthesia Medications for Adult and Pediatric populations, Fluid and Blood management, and a session on Care of the Caregiver by Tom Moore from the RWJBarnabas Health Employee Assistance Program. In addition to these topics, nurses from various RWJBarnabas Health sites across the system attended the conference to network and learn from their colleagues.

The morning began with hands-on sessions on mini-code management led by system interprofessional colleagues. Afterward, attendees participated in ventilator management and A-Lines sessions before wrapping up the day with airway management training. To help participants prepare for their upcoming exams, a mini certification review session was also held with tips on tools techniques were provided.
