Nico Young Eyes Olympic Gold: Impressive Records and Dedicated Training at Northern Arizona University Prepare Him for the Biggest Challenge Yet.

Nico Young, NAU runner, secures spot in 2024 Olympics trials

Nico Young, a runner from Northern Arizona University (NAU), has set multiple records and won national championships. Now, he is aiming for a new title as an Olympic athlete. Young recently broke the collegiate record for the 10k race, running the distance in under 27 minutes, which qualifies him for the Olympic trials. He expressed his excitement, stating that only a few Americans have achieved such a feat.

Young’s training at NAU, located at 7,000ft elevation, has given him an advantage in his performances. The benefits of training at altitude have helped him maintain a faster pace when he competes at sea level. In addition to his recent 10k record, Young has broken the world record for the fastest mile at elevation and the collegiate record for the 5k.

With the Olympic trials just two months away, Young is intensifying his training regimen, focusing on refining his speed work and preparing for the challenging races ahead. He will be participating in the 5k and 10k events at the trials in Oregon at the end of June. If he qualifies, he will represent Team USA in Paris in July.

Despite the pressure of competing at such a high level, Young remains calm and focused. He emphasized the importance of staying relaxed and conserving energy during his races. As he prepares for the trials, he is embracing the underdog mentality and using it to his advantage.

Young’s ultimate goal is to make the Olympic team, and he is determined to give his best performance at the upcoming trials. With his impressive track record and dedicated training, he is poised to make a strong showing as he vies for a spot on the Olympic team.
