Conversations about sex and gender do not have to be negative

New discoveries are being made in the field of sex and gender research as scientists begin to consider these factors in their studies, thanks to guidelines and mandates from major funders like the NIH. However, the sociopolitical climate surrounding gender identity has become increasingly hostile and polarized, with science sometimes being weaponized to push agendas. This has caused confusion and fear among researchers and the public alike.

It is widely accepted by scientists that sex and gender exist beyond a simple binary, but discussions around funding, inclusivity, and research practices are needed to address years of neglected research and individual differences in a responsible and inclusive manner.
