According to Science, the Top Tomatoes for Northern Colorado Gardening

Backyard gardeners in Northern Colorado face unique challenges due to the region’s dry climate, short growing season, and frequent wind and hail events. However, new research conducted at Colorado State University offers valuable insights for selecting crop varieties that can thrive in these conditions. KUNC’s rural and small communities reporter Rae Solomon recently spoke with the researchers to discuss their findings.

Solomon shared her insights on the best tomatoes and peppers to grow in Northern Colorado with In The NoCo’s Erin O’Toole. The researchers conducted tomato trials in Larimer County, both in-ground and in containers, to determine which varieties performed best. Similarly, they conducted trials for sweet peppers to identify the most suitable varieties for the region.

By utilizing this research, backyard gardeners in Northern Colorado can improve their chances of a successful harvest despite the region’s challenging weather patterns.
