Kazakhstan Takes a Giant Leap with Additive Manufacturing: A Collaborative Effort to Establish a Competitive Center

Kazakhstan Aiming to Grow Additive Technologies Industry

A consortium led by Satbayev University, EOS GmbH, and NORM Additive has signed a framework agreement to establish a Center for Additive Technologies at Kazakhstan’s Institute of Physics and Technology. The collaboration aims to advance additive manufacturing capabilities in Kazakhstan through the development of a new facility.

During a meeting in Almaty, Kazakh Invest discussed plans for a pilot project that would focus on a scientific and innovative competence center. This center will specialize in working with materials such as polyamide and metal powders to produce various components on 3D printers. The first phase of the project will involve the creation of an innovation center for technology transfer and competency building.

Subsequent stages will see the establishment of a research and innovation center (R&D) to manufacture and test the initial batch of products. The final phase will involve the commercial production of specific components to meet the needs of various industries, including automotive, aerospace, engineering, oil and gas, and medicine.

Future developments include facilities for the study of materials like polymers and their components for industrial-scale 3D printer production. The project has the potential to create a niche industry in Kazakhstan, enhancing the country’s ability to compete globally with high-value-added products. This initiative marks a significant step towards advancing additive manufacturing capabilities in Kazakhstan.
