Israel Opens New Border Crossing with Gaza Strip, Amid Ongoing Conflict and US Intervention

Israel Allows Humanitarian Aid to Enter Gaza Again

The Israeli government has announced the partial opening of a new border crossing with the Gaza Strip to allow for the entry of humanitarian aid. The Western Erez crossing was opened after pressure from the US to send supplies to Palestinian civilians, and will be coordinated in partnership with Washington.

On the same day, dozens of trucks loaded with flour were coordinated from the port of Ashdod on behalf of the World Food Program after undergoing security checks, according to the Israeli Defense Forces. Hamas attacks had previously hampered the delivery of aid, leading to the closure and reopening of the Kerem Shalom crossing.

Meanwhile, American Secretary of State Antony Blinken criticized Israeli operations in Rafah, occupied by Palestinians, and defended the interruption of sending heavy US weapons to the country due to concerns about their use in current military actions. According to Blinken, Israel does not have a credible plan to protect the population while eliminating terrorists from the Palestinian militia. The Israeli government claims that Rafah is Hamas’ last stronghold in the enclave.
