Israel Navy Intercepts UAV Heading Towards Eilat with Saar 6 Type Corvette: Amid Growing Security Concerns in the Region

Israel Deploys Naval Anti-Missile Defense System ‘Iron Dome’ for the First Time

On Tuesday, the Israeli Navy successfully intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) launched from the Red Sea that was heading towards the port city of Eilat using its naval anti-missile defense system based on the ‘Iron Dome’ system. The Saar 6 type corvette, one of four acquired by Israel from ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), carried out the interception in the Gulf of Eilat area.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have been on high alert as Yemen’s Houthi rebels have increased their missile launches against commercial ships in retaliation for the situation in Gaza Strip. In addition, pro-Iranian militia Islamic Resistance in Iraq has also targeted various targets in Israel, including an oil port in Ashkelon, as reported by Al Mayadeen chain.

The ongoing tensions and security concerns in the region have led to Israel acquiring up to four Saar 6 type corvettes from TKMS. The last ship arrived in Haifa in 2021, highlighting the need for advanced defense systems and military capabilities by the Israeli Army to protect its interests and citizens.
