Special Olympics Athletes Showcased at Cuesta College’s Spring Sports Expo

Over 600 athletes from the Special Olympics of Southern California (SOSC) recently gathered at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo for a day of competition during their Spring Sports Expo. This was the second consecutive year that the school has hosted this event, which took place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and included track and field, basketball, and bocce competitions.

The festivities began with a parade of athletes, followed by the singing of the national anthem and the recitation of the pledge of allegiance. The event received strong support from local law enforcement, approximately 40 schools in San Luis Obispo County, and over 700 community members who came out to cheer on the athletes.

Special Olympics awards announcer Scott Cusick expressed his admiration for the athletes, highlighting their determination and perseverance in the face of challenges. He mentioned how inspiring it was to see them push through and strive for excellence.

The Special Olympics of San Luis Obispo County, Santa Maria, and Lompoc provide training and competition opportunities in 12 different sports throughout the year across four seasons. Those interested in learning more can visit the SOSC website for additional information.
