Innovative Student Projects Showcase Science and Technology Passion at Fraser Valley Regional Science Fair

Students Present Their Projects at Fraser Valley Regional Science Fair

At the Fraser Valley Regional Science Fair, students from schools in Langley, Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack and Hope showcased their science projects. A total of 116 projects were presented to the public and judges. The event aimed to encourage students’ passion for science and innovation, with topics ranging from plant photosynthesis to global warming, mental health and even 3-D printing.

One standout project was by Grade 8 students Japandeep Gill and Metaab Khangura from Dasmesh Punjabi School in Abbotsford. Inspired by a frustrating experience at the airport, Khangura designed a sensor that drivers can install in their vehicles to help them locate parking spots in busy lots. This innovative solution not only assists drivers in finding parking but also helps them locate their vehicle upon their return. Gill and Khangura expressed their excitement about the project, hoping to advance to the national level.

The young scientists eagerly await the awards ceremony on Wednesday to see how their projects fare. The event serves as an opportunity to cultivate students’ interest in science and technology, fostering creativity and critical thinking skills among participants.
