Hidden Hitchhikers: An Exploration of Endogenous Retroviruses and Their Spread Through Eukaryotic Cells

FHSU Science Café on Retroviruses Scheduled for April 29th

Fort Hays State University’s Science Café event is set to take place on Monday, April 29th. Sponsored by the Science and Mathematics Education Institute (SMEI), the presentation will be held at The Venue in Thirsty’s Brew Pub & Grill, located at 2704 Vine. The event will begin at 7 p.m.

The topic of this month’s presentation is “Endogenous retroviruses: Hidden hitchhikers and how they spread.” Dr. Eric Gillock, a professor of biological sciences at FHSU, will delve into the world of these genetic parasites that can be found within the genomes of most eukaryotic cells. These retroviruses act as unwanted houseguests, appearing without invitation and never leaving.

The Science Café presentations are open to the public and free of charge.
