Rogers City Welcomes Latest Eco-Friendly Technology | Updates on News, Sports, and Jobs

Moran Iron Works (MIW), a fabrication facility known for its custom design and engineering solutions, has been awarded a contract by SMS group for the creation of two essential granulation basins. These basins are used in the process by SMS group to granulate blast furnace slag and produce a superior-quality, low carbon emission replacement for traditional Portland-style cement. The basins are high in value and quality, providing a green technology solution for reducing carbon footprint in the cement industry.

Each weighing 164,000 pounds and standing 59 feet high and 21 feet in diameter, these basins are part of a project that began in January 2024. They will be transported via the High-Wire Corridor to Port Calcite in Rogers City, where they will be loaded onto a barge for shipment to their final destination on the Great Lakes.

The use of these granulation basins represents a sustainable solution for the cement industry, providing a high-quality and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional cement production methods. By utilizing these basins, the industry can significantly reduce its carbon emissions and contribute to a cleaner environment.

In conclusion, Moran Iron Works (MIW) is proud to be part of this innovative project with SMS group. The fabrication of these granulation basins represents a step forward in green technology for the cement industry, providing a more sustainable and environmentally friendly solution for cement production.
