Governor Stitt Urges Caution After Tornadoes Sweep Through Oklahoma

Multiple tornadoes in Oklahoma leave two dead

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt announced on Sunday that the state remains on “maximum alert” due to bad weather, after several tornadoes and electrical storms hit its territory over the past two days. At least two deaths have been reported, and material damage is still being evaluated. The governor expressed his condolences to those who lost loved ones in the tornadoes that swept through the state.

On Saturday night, a tornado passed through western Hughes County, damaging several buildings and injuring at least four people – three of them seriously – and causing the death of an adult and a minor. In Sulphur, a town of 5,000 inhabitants south of Oklahoma City, at least two tornadoes were recorded. Another tornado hit Marietta. Red Cross services have already set up a shelter there to meet the immediate needs of those affected.

Nearly 33,000 people in Oklahoma were without electricity on Sunday morning, according to the poweroutage.us portal. The tornadoes on Friday night also wreaked havoc in Nebraska and Iowa, causing the collapse of a building with dozens of people inside and destroying or damaging hundreds of homes.
