Nicole Hernandez, a biochemistry undergraduate student at UF, was inspired by her virtual shadowing experiences with health care professionals through the Medi-Gators program to pursue a career in medicine. As she prepares to graduate in May 2024 and apply to medical school after taking a gap year, Hernandez credits her involvement in the events committee and as a student ambassador with helping her gain valuable exposure and experiences that solidified her career goals. Through these experiences, she developed the necessary communication skills and teamwork abilities that are essential in the medical field. The Medi-Gators program provided Hernandez with insight into the various roles within health care, which helped her navigate the overwhelming variety of career options available. With the support of mentors and exposure to different aspects of health care, Hernandez is confident in her decision to stay on the pre-med track and pursue a career in medicine.
