Growing up in a small town, Patrick Smith always dreamt of having a horse. However, it wasn’t until his family moved to the countryside that he finally got the chance to pursue his passion. His neighbors advertised riding lessons, and at the age of 16, Smith took his first lesson and fell in love with it.
At the time, he knew nothing about team roping but soon discovered his love for heeling. As Smith continued to practice and compete in team roping, he found it to be addictive and poured his heart and soul into it. To support his newfound passion, he even took on a job at Chili’s.
Smith’s dedication paid off, and he started winning competitions, fueling his love for the sport even more. In 2005, he purchased a horse instead of a truck, which led him to his first World Title. In 2010, Smith clinched his second World Title, solidifying his status as a top team roper. Today, he is a $2 million team roper, reflecting his remarkable journey from a young boy with a dream to a successful and accomplished athlete in the world of team roping.
