Mbappe ‘struggling’ following nose injury

France coach Didier Deschamps expressed concern over captain Kylian Mbappe’s health after he sustained a potentially serious injury in the team’s 1-0 win over Austria. Mbappe’s nose was possibly broken after a collision with an opponent’s shoulder while heading the ball. The French Football Federation stated that surgery may not be necessary, but the full extent of his injury is still unknown.

During the game, Mbappe attempted to continue playing but was eventually substituted due to his condition. Deschamps commented on Mbappe’s condition, stating that it seemed complicated and that the medical staff was evaluating him.

The French team will heavily rely on Mbappe, who has been a key player with 47 goals in 80 international appearances. His involvement in France’s only goal in the match against Austria highlighted his importance to the team. Despite yet to score a goal in the European Championships, Mbappe has 12 World Cup goals to his name.

As France prepares to face the Netherlands in their next match, Deschamps acknowledged that Mbappe’s absence would be a significant loss. While hoping for positive news on Mbappe’s condition, Deschamps emphasized the team’s need to adapt if he is unable to play. The French team remains hopeful that Mbappe will recover in time to contribute to their campaign for a third European title.
