After months of rehabilitation at the Marine Science Center in Volusia County, four juvenile green sea turtles are ready to return home. Named Hopyard, Smoked Gouda, Orkney, and Quark, the turtles were found stranded in Volusia County’s waters back in February and March. They were suffering from issues such as lethargy and anemia.
During their time at the center, the turtles received fluids, antibiotics, and vitamins to help them recover. Marine Science Center veterinarian Brooke Burkhalter has approved them for release back into the wild.
The release of the turtles will take place at the Beach Street Ramp in Ponce Inlet on Tuesday, June 4 at 3 p.m. Paid beach parking is available on the south side of the ramp, depending on the tide. Visitors can also park for free at the Marine Science Center and walk to the beach for the release.
The Marine Science Center is located at 100 Lighthouse Drive in Ponce Inlet and is open to the public.
