Fayetteville-Manlius High School’s HOSA Chapter: Achieving Success in Spring Leadership Conference with Remarkable Awards

Fort Myers High School students set to participate in Health Occupations Students of America International Leadership Conference this June

Fayetteville-Manlius High School students in the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Club recently attended the New York Spring Leadership Conference and achieved remarkable success, bringing home numerous awards. Established last year by student Alexis Forbes, who enlisted physics teacher Alexa Estock’s assistance in setting up F-M’s own chapter, the primary goal of the organization is to inspire and support students pursuing careers in the healthcare industry by actively promoting various career opportunities available in healthcare.

At the spring leadership conference held in Syracuse, F-M’s HOSA chapter competed against high schools from across the state, including chapters from major cities such as New York City and Buffalo. After months of preparation and hard work, students participated in various healthcare-related events such as emergency medical technician (EMT), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid, public health, medical spelling, dental science, pharmacy science, sports medicine, forensic science, and cultural diversities and disparities in healthcare.

The students from F-M were highly successful at the conference, earning nine gold medals, six silver medals, three bronze medals, and other recognitions. Additionally, three students – Stella Affeldt, Sureeta Das and Sanaa Goyal – have secured a spot to compete at the national level at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Texas this June. They will represent F-M and compete in their respective events alongside students from all fifty states and various countries like China
