Embracing Change: The International Olympic Committee’s AI Strategy for the Paris Olympics

International Olympic Committee reveals strategies for implementing artificial intelligence in sports

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced their plans to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into sports in preparation for the upcoming Paris Olympics. The move follows a trend of utilizing advancing technology in sports.

During a press event at the former London Olympic Park, IOC President Thomas Bach emphasized the importance of embracing change and being leaders in utilizing AI responsibly. He shared that the IOC’s AI strategy includes identifying talented athletes, personalizing training methods, and enhancing fairness in judging during the games.

In addition to improving judging and athlete identification, the IOC plans to use AI to safeguard athletes from online harassment and enhance the broadcast viewing experience for spectators at home. Given the significant revenue generated from broadcast rights sales, technological advancements are key in enhancing the Olympic Games.

Despite concerns among local organizers about using AI for security purposes, such as AI-powered cameras for monitoring potential threats like abandoned packages or crowd movements, the IOC remains committed to utilizing AI strategically and responsibly to enhance the Olympic experience for athletes and spectators alike.
