Greece is currently constructing Europe’s largest and greenest smart city near Athens. The Ellinikon smart city, developed by Ellinikon, aims to create a “zip-code paradise” at the heart of the project. The first phase of the $8 billion initiative is expected to be completed by 2026.
The Ellinikon smart city is designed to offer a mix of high-end amenities, including a mall, sports park, and eco-friendly infrastructure. The goal is to blend beautiful coastal views with advanced technology and sustainability. Developers anticipate that upon completion, the smart city will draw in a million new tourists and contribute 3.3 billion euros ($3.6 billion) to the Greek economy.
This innovative project is a unique addition to the European landscape and has been in development for over a decade on the grounds of a former Athens airport. Such projects are often seen in countries like China and the Middle East, making Ellinikon stand out even more as it becomes Europe’s largest green smart city.
