Downtown Raleigh Businesses Adapt and Evolve: The Closure of Armadillo Grill and Other Local Establishments

Glenwood South restaurant to close after over 2 decades in business

The longtime Raleigh restaurant, Armadillo Grill, has closed its doors after serving customers on Glenwood Avenue for 22 years. The owners have announced that the changing landscape of the restaurant industry and rising costs of doing business have made it impossible to continue operating at their current location. However, they plan to continue offering catering services and are looking for a new location to serve the Raleigh community.

The closure of Armadillo Grill is just one of several downtown Raleigh businesses that have announced closures in recent months. Capital Club 16, located on West Martin Street, has also closed its brick-and-mortar space but will continue to focus on onsite catering, pop-up events, and their food truck, The Wandering Wolf. Clouds Brewing is another business in the area that will be closing its taproom on North West Street while keeping its other taproom location on Front Street open.

The loss of these beloved establishments is a reminder that businesses in downtown Raleigh are constantly evolving and adapting to changing circumstances. While the community may miss the physical presence of these businesses, they can still enjoy their offerings through catering services and pop-up events.
