Bold Bank Robberies in Gaza Strip: Hamas Links, Lack of Security Measures, and Uncertain Future for Gaza’s Economic Stability

In the month of April, multiple bank robberies occurred in Gaza Strip. These incidents were carried out by Palestinian armed groups, one of which claimed to be Hamas. One of the robberies took place on April 16 when employees at the main bank branch in Gaza City discovered a hole in the ceiling of one of the bank’s rooms. Earlier that day, unidentified individuals had entered the bank and stolen safes containing approximately 2.8 million euros in shekels. The following day, the robbers returned and blew up three safes, obtaining about 29 million euros. Just two days later, their total loot amounted to 33.6 million euros.

Despite the large sums of money stolen, the perpetrators were able to evade capture and disappear without a trace. The authorities are currently investigating these incidents but as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the bank robberies.
