Central Finland board member dismissed due to romantic ties – KL reports on consequential special meeting

At a general meeting in Jyväskylä, the removal of a board member caused an uproar, bringing attention to the internal turmoil within the media company. The meeting, which rarely attracts such anticipation outside the capital region, saw the dismissal of Riitta Vesterinen-Virtanen after a vote in accordance with the board’s proposal. The controversy stemmed from a dating relationship between Vesterinen-Virtanen and another employee, which the board viewed as a conflict of interest.

The dismissal of a board member in a listed company is a rare occurrence, and the public nature of this event sparked heated discussions at the general meeting. Various shareholders questioned the justification for the dismissal, highlighting concerns about consistency in decision-making. Ultimately, Vesterinen-Virtanen was voted out, with around 93.2% of shareholders in favor of the separation.
