BMW Boosts Production Capacity for Electric Powertrains with $200 Million Investment in Landshut Plant

BMW increases production of electric vehicle components

BMW’s 200 million euro investment in its components plant in Landshut, Germany will expand production capacity for fifth and sixth generation aluminum housings. The focus of the expansion will be on producing the central housing for the electric powertrain of the Neue Klasse at this facility. This investment will result in the addition of two new production lines, increasing annual production capacity by approximately 30 percent. The fifth generation of BMW electric motors, currently used in model series such as iX3, i4, i5, i7, and iX, will also benefit from this expansion. Plans for the sixth generation to be used in Neue Klasse vehicles starting in 2025 are already underway.

Thomas Thym, head of the BMW Group plant in Landshut, emphasized the importance of continuously expanding the site’s expertise in both production and technology development. This expansion aims to provide flexibility needed for future advancements in the industry.
