Air India Introduces Premium Economy on Domestic Routes: Enhancing the Flying Experience for Passengers

Air India introduces premium economy class on select domestic routes starting in July | Company News

Air India has announced the launch of premium economy class on select domestic routes, making it the second Indian carrier to offer this travel category after Vistara. The Tata Group-owned airline has refitted two new A320neo aircraft with a three-class configuration, which includes eight seats in business class, 24 seats with extra legroom in premium economy, and 132 seats in the economy category. This change provides passengers with more choices and enhances their overall flying experience.

This is the first time that Air India has introduced premium economy cabins on its narrow-body aircraft, which operate on domestic and short-haul international routes. Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at Air India, stated that this introduction is an important step in improving the overall flying experience for passengers. As part of its plan to upgrade its fleet, Air India plans to introduce the three-class configuration to its entire full-service narrow-body fleet over the next year. Existing aircraft are currently undergoing refits while new aircraft joining the fleet will be delivered with the new Air India experience. This upgrade complements the improved wide-body experience available on the A350 fleet and new B777s.
