16-Year-Old Amateur Golfer Kris Kim Makes History, Sets New Record at CJ Cup Byron Nelson

16-year-old newbie Kris Kim impresses golf world by making the cut in PGA Tour debut

Kris Kim, a 16-year-old amateur golfer from England, has made history by making the cut on his PGA Tour debut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. His impressive performance has made him the youngest player to make the cut on tour in nine years, surpassing the record previously held by Jordan Spieth in 2010.

Kim carded a three-under-68 first round and a four-under-67 second round in McKinney, Texas. Despite admitting to feeling nerves on the cut line, Kim expressed his joy at being able to continue playing for two more days. His mother, former professional golfer Ji-Hyun Suh, serves as his swing coach and was there to support him throughout his journey.

After making the cut, Kim sits in a tie for 36th place, seven shots behind overnight leader Jake Knapp. Kim will tee off for the third round on Saturday morning while Knapp and Troy Merritt will tee off in the afternoon. Meanwhile, Spieth failed to make the cut due to a wrist injury.

Kim’s successful amateur career began when he was introduced to golf by his mother at a young age. He has won various championships so far and continues to improve with her guidance as his swing coach. As he continues to play on tour, Kim hopes to one day become a professional golfer and compete alongside some of the world’s best players.
