Zambian Striker Barbra Banda Named NWSL Player of the Month for May: A Record-Breaking Season

Barbra Banda from Orlando Pride awarded Player of the Month for May by EA Sports

Zambian international Barbra Banda has been named the NWSL Player of the Month for May. In her first season with the league, Banda has been on fire, scoring eight goals and setting up two assists in just seven matches played.

Banda’s outstanding performance has helped Orlando Pride maintain an undefeated start to the 2024 campaign. The team currently sits atop the league standings with a record-breaking eight-game win streak, setting a new league record.

One of Banda’s standout achievements this month was tying the league lead in braces with three, matching Sophia Smith of Portland Thorns FC. She also equaled the Pride Club record for braces in a season set by her teammate Marta in 2017.

Banda has scored four of her eight goals with her head, which equals the Pride record for most headed goals by a single player in history. Her exceptional play on the field has earned her recognition as one of the top players in the league.

The NWSL Player of the Month is chosen each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association and broadcast talent based on exceptional performance and impact during that month. Banda’s impressive performance has earned her this recognition and she continues to be a force to be reckoned with on the field for Orlando Pride.
