Youngstown State Football team has been ranked 23rd in the HERO Sports FCS Preseason Top 25 poll. The Penguins had an impressive 8-5 campaign last season and made it to the 2023 FCS Playoffs. They are now preparing for the upcoming 2024 season with a tough schedule that includes several preseason Top 25 teams, such as South Dakota State (No.1), South Dakota (No.5), Villanova (No.6), Southern Illinois (No.9), and Illinois State (No.24). In addition to these matchups, YSU also has a game scheduled against ACC member Pittsburgh in September.
The Guins will kick off their season against Villanova on August 29th, just a year after facing the Wildcats in the second round of the FCS Playoffs in Philadelphia last December. The 2024 HERO Sports FCS Preseason Top 25 features several top-ranked teams, including South Dakota State receiving 31st-place votes followed by North Dakota State, Montana, and Montana State rounding out the top four positions.
Youngstown State is ranked at No. 23 in this poll and will face stiff competition throughout the season as they strive to improve on their recent successes and make it back to the playoffs once again.
