Youngest World Champion Set to Battle Reigning Champion in Historic Chess Championship Match in Singapore!

FIDE announces Gukesh vs Ding Liren World Chess Championship match to be held in Singapore.

The upcoming World Chess Championship match between Gukesh and Ding Liren is set to take place in Singapore from November to December 2024, as announced by FIDE on Monday. The 18-year-old Indian player, Gukesh, will challenge reigning world champion Ding Liren in a historic battle for the title of youngest world champion.

The decision to host the championship in Singapore was made after a thorough selection process that also involved New Delhi and Chennai. The 15-member FIDE Council considered various factors in their decision-making process, including neutrality, revenue generation potential, and promotional opportunities for the game.

Arkady Dvorkovich, president of FIDE, expressed his excitement about hosting the event in Singapore. He highlighted the city’s global status as a tourist and business hub, as well as its thriving chess community with great potential and talent. Sutovsky explained that while neutrality was important, other factors like guaranteed revenue and promotional opportunities for the game were also taken into account in making the final decision.
