Meanwhile, Berti had been splitting time at third base with Cabrera and had a batting average of 4-for-19 so far this season.
In another roster move, the Yankees designated Josh Maciejewski for assignment. The left-handed pitcher has made only one appearance this season, pitching a clean inning against the Marlins on April 8. To fill the spots left by Berti and Maciejewski, the Yankees called up INF Kevin Smith and RHP Ron Marinaccio to join the team.
