World Tai Chi and Qigong Day: Celebrating Unity and Harmony through the Practice of Tai Chi

Local participants engage in global Tai Chi and QiGong Day event

A local Tai Chi Club recently took part in the annual World Tai Chi and Qigong Day event held in Triangle Park. On the last Saturday of April, members from the club gathered to celebrate this special occasion. This marked the third year in a row that they have participated in this event. The main goal of World Tai Chi and Qigong Day is to highlight the numerous benefits of practicing Tai Chi and QiGong, such as improved health and well-being.

Participants were excited to be a part of a global movement, as hundreds of clubs from over 80 countries all performed their forms simultaneously. This synchronized effort created a wave of positive energy and intention for world peace and harmony, with the motto “One World, One Breath” emphasizing unity and harmony among all participants.

The event was started by Bill Douglas, a Master teacher, in 1999 and has since become an international phenomenon. Tai Chi can be described as “moving meditation,” but it requires consistent practice to fully experience its meditative benefits. Local beginner classes are available at the STEP Senior Center in Lock Haven, allowing individuals to learn and experience the practice firsthand.

Harvard Health Publications have praised Tai Chi as “moving medication,” citing its numerous health benefits such as improved balance, flexibility, strength, stress reduction, and even increased longevity.
