Wise County Shines in UIL Academics Competition, Earning Top Honors and Placing High

Silver brought home by Slidell Computer Science Team

At the UIL Academics state competition, Slidell earned one of the top two honors in the team computer science category. The team consisted of Raegan Davis (4th), Caden Brown (6th), Seth Richards (8th), and Landon Jarrett (20th), with a team score of 408. They finished 41 points behind first place Aspermont. Additionally, Slidell teams also placed in accounting (5th), Journalism (6th), and Speech (24th). Outside of computer science, Hazel Davis ranked 5th in headline writing, and Madison McCullough ranked 5th in spelling.

Wise County had success in both individual and team competitions at the UIL Academics state competition. In individual competitions, Felicity Martin from Boyd placed 6th in ready writing, while Josh Hartenberger from Decatur took third place in feature writing and Levi Redder from Bridgeport finished 13th in the spelling competition. In addition to these individual accolades, Wise County also excelled in team events. The Slidell team earned second place in computer science and fifth place in accounting, while Decatur’s journalism team placed sixth. Overall, Wise County’s students demonstrated a strong performance at the state competition.
