Wisconsin’s Economy and Workforce on the Rise: DWD Reveals 2023-25 Job Creation and Employment Growth Projections

Wisconsin’s economy and workforce poised for growth with new job estimates

The economy and workforce in Wisconsin are expected to grow significantly over the next two years, according to short-term industry employment projections for 2023-25. The data shows that the state has made a remarkable recovery from the impact of COVID-19, with employment levels fully restored by the second quarter of 2023.

DWD’s state labor economists project that Wisconsin will create 82,867 new jobs and experience a 2.47% growth across all industries during this period. Computer and mathematical occupations are expected to grow at the fastest rate, with a growth rate of 4.64%. Additionally, various industry sectors are projected to experience growth in employment levels.

The leisure and hospitality industry, which experienced a significant decline in employment during the pandemic, is expected to lead in employment growth in the 2023-25 projections, with a growth rate of 5.25% and 15,342 new jobs. DWD’s chief economist Dennis Winters expressed optimism for this sector’s future as it bounces back from the challenges faced during the pandemic.

Healthcare employment also played a crucial role in Wisconsin’s economic recovery, with projections showing that the education and health services sector will soon surpass pre-pandemic employment levels. Additionally, the Healthcare Support occupational group is among the top three groups to exceed pre-pandemic levels in 2023.

DWD Secretary Amy Pechacek stated that these economic projections show broad growth and low unemployment levels, with employment now higher than it was before the pandemic. She emphasized that workforce programs and initiatives are being advanced to connect job seekers and employers to maximize the benefits of expanding economy.
