Wimbledon Stands Its Ground on Alcohol Policy Despite Unruly Behavior at French Open

Wimbledon organisers reaffirm their alcohol policy following the French Open’s decision to ban booze.

The organisers of Wimbledon have announced that they will not be introducing a booze ban like the one at the French Open this year. Despite unruly behavior from spectators at Roland Garros, leading to the ban on alcohol consumption in the stands, there are no plans for new restrictions at Wimbledon this summer.

Incidents such as chewing gum being spat at Belgium’s David Goffin and crowd behavior towards Naomi Osaka prompted the ban in Paris. However, the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has stated that there will be no changes to the alcohol policy for the event.

Spectators at Wimbledon are allowed to bring in one bottle of wine or champagne, or two cans of beer each. Additionally, alcohol beverages are available for purchase at the event, with prices ranging from £7.55 for a pint of beer to £32.60 for a jug of Pimm’s.

While incidents involving drunk fans have occurred at Wimbledon in previous years, such as Nick Kyrgios accusing a spectator of being intoxicated during his match against Novak Djokovic, there are no plans to introduce a booze ban at this year’s tournament.
