Why Lazio Rejected Premier League Offer for Young Greek Goalkeeper: Selling Mandas Would Have Been a Big Mistake

Lazio Turns Down Premier League Bid for Promising Goalkeeper

Lazio recently turned down an offer from a Premier League club for their talented backup goalkeeper Christos Mandas. Mandas, a 22-year-old Greek goalkeeper, was signed last summer from OFI Crete for a bargain price of €1.3 million. He was brought in to provide cover for the team’s number one goalkeeper, Ivan Provedel.

In March, Mandas had the opportunity to showcase his skills when Provedel was sidelined with an ankle injury. Mandas impressed with his performances, keeping six clean sheets and conceding just nine goals in 12 appearances. His potential as a goalkeeper quickly became evident.

Despite receiving an offer from a Premier League club worth €10 million plus €5 million in add-ons, Lazio’s president Claudio Lotito refused to sell Mandas. The club sees Mandas as a valuable asset who has the potential to become a key player for the team in the long term. As a result, Lazio is keen on retaining both Provedel and Mandas to strengthen their goalkeeping options.
