White Sox Face Major Injury Blow: Robert Out for at Least Six Weeks, Potentially More; Team Struggles Continue Without Star Players

Luis Robert Jr., White Sox outfielder, to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks with injury.

The Chicago White Sox received disappointing news regarding Luis Robert Jr.’s injury, as the star center fielder is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks due to a hip flexor strain. However, there is concern within the organization that his absence could extend to three to four months.

Robert was placed on the 10-day injured list after sustaining the Grade 2 strain during a game against the Kansas City Royals, where he had difficulty putting weight on his right leg. This is not the first time Robert has dealt with an injury to his right hip flexor, as he missed nearly three-and-a-half months in 2021 due to a Grade 3 strain. Despite his impressive All-Star season in 2023, where he hit .264 with 38 home runs, 36 doubles, 80 RBI, and 20 stolen bases, the White Sox have struggled with a 1-8 record going into Monday’s game at the Cleveland Guardians. They currently have the fewest runs scored in MLB and the worst run differential in the AL at -26.

With their best hitter sidelined, the White Sox offense faces even more challenges. In addition to Robert, the team is also without designated hitter Eloy Jiménez, who is on the injured list with a left adductor strain. The struggles have started to impact team morale, with pitcher Garrett Crochet noting that players are recognizing the need to improve their performance. Despite these challenges, Crochet remains optimistic about Robert’s return and believes that he will be back by midseason
