WhatsApp Opening Up to Competition: Messaging Across Apps and iPad Version Announced

WhatsApp undergoes a revolutionary transformation: here’s what’s changing in the app

In March, WhatsApp announced a major update that will enable users to send and receive messages from other apps such as Instagram, Messenger, Signal, and SMS. The updated messaging software is currently available to WhatsApp beta 2 users in Europe. However, it does not support messages from Telegram, possibly due to security requirements. This move is in line with the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which requires companies like Meta to open up their products to competitors.

The new feature allowing messaging across different apps is currently only available to EU users but is expected to spread to users worldwide. As a result of this new regulation, Apple was fined 1.84 billion euros for preventing customers from signing up for other streaming services outside of its app store. The messaging systems must maintain end-to-end encryption, which may require other messaging apps to adapt their encryption codes to WhatsApp’s.

Meta is also testing a version of WhatsApp for iPads, which will allow users to connect their personal account to the tablet without the need for reconnection. The iPad application is expected to include all familiar features, including the option for phone and video calls. Additionally, WhatsApp recently introduced a new green design. The evolution of adult sex toys from taboo to mainstream is also discussed on the website.
