WhatsApp introduces new feature to combat spam and virtual scams

WhatsApp, a popular messaging app used by over 2 billion people worldwide, is facing challenges with virtual scams and spam accounts. To combat this issue, the platform has introduced a new anti-spam protection feature that automatically suspends accounts that engage in spamming activities. The system aims to prevent fraudulent accounts from spreading fake business offers, job scams, or suspicious messages.

WABetainfo, a specialized site that tests and reports on WhatsApp updates, discovered the new feature in the latest beta version of the app for Android. Suspended accounts will receive a notification explaining that their recent activity suggests spam or automated messages. While they won’t be able to start new conversations, they’ll still be able to send and receive messages in existing chats and groups. This temporary suspension allows users to correct their actions and avoid repeating the behavior that led to their suspension.

In addition to this anti-spam feature, WhatsApp has also introduced tools for organizing events and facilitating responses in ad groups. Users can now create events directly on WhatsApp, such as virtual meetings or birthday celebrations, and enable group members to RSVP to the event. Event details can be found on the group’s information page, and attendees will receive notifications as the event approaches.

These new features will first be available in Community groups before being extended to all groups in the future. Responses in ad groups will be organized and minimized so that users can see others’ opinions in context. Notifications for these responses will be muted for all group members, creating a more streamlined and organized communication experience within WhatsApp groups.

Overall, these improvements aim to enhance user experience by reducing spamming activities while providing better tools for event organization and communication within groups.
